before...during...after...

Did you make it through the day? We did. It was nice to just wake up and not feel like I had to rush around like a mad woman. Grant was so sweet and crawled in bed with us around 7am and waited patiently for us to get ourselves woke up. He whispered to me "Merry Christmas" mommy and then said "Happy Birthday Jesus". I am very happy that he realizes that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus.

Here is what the Night Before Christmas looked like

I love my little white tree! Our Living Room is super small so a big tree would definitely take up way too much space. I am proud of myself for not going overboard with the gifts. I think Santa spent just enough money for the only child in this family. G-man doesn't WANT for anything but he got most of what he asked for. My goal is to little by little make the number of gifts less and focusing more on giving of ourselves. As the boy gets older, I want him to begin realizing that it's more important to give of ourselves than being preoccupied with what He is going to get.

Here is what Christmas looked like at the DeFelice house:

He said "I guess Santa thought I was good enough this year" LOL he's too funny sometimes!

Santa always brings new PJ's....it's like a mandatory requirement!

Grammy thought it necessary to add delirium to our house by purchasing that obnoxious Big Foot that is quite entertaining but very ugly and almost scary.
It drove him absolutely crazy knowing there were goodies in the stocking and he couldn't peek!

Living room floor trashed in a matter of minutes

We actually had a White Christmas this year in TN. Caught the boy gazing out the back door!

We ended the day with a visit to see Mamaw! Grant is a very lucky boy to still have a great grandparent alive. We bought Mamaw her favorite parfume, Chanel No. 5. She loved it!
Only the best for the Best!

I only asked the Main Squeeze for a few things. This is one of them.
It's a camera bag that looks like a purse! Isn't it gorgeous!
I LURVE it!
I also got a Memorex clock radio that charges my iPhone and a USB thingy called a Picture Keeper that holds 16,000 pics on it. I will use it to back up my all my pics because I take a lot of photos throughout the year.  Main Squeeze asked for clothes so that's what he got! 4 shirts & 2 prs of pants.
I think we are going to head to MO to see some family over the New Year. Then before we know it, school will be back in session!
Hope you had a blessed and wonderful Christmas!

Martha Washington Candy

Martha Washington Candy

Ingredients:
2 lb. powdered suger
1 bag coconut (14 os.)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 stick of butter melted
1 and 1/2 cup chopped pecans
12 oz. bag of semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 block of paraffin wax
OR
chocolate candy coating that comes in big squares

I made probably about 3 dozen from one recipe

I used the candy bark that comes in blocks & it's okay but it doesn't make the shell look smooth
just look at how 'ugly'  they are.!
But, they are still good to eat.
Next time I will get the choc. chips & paraffin wax.
In case you can't find paraffin at the store, it's near the canning supplies.
another reason these don't look smooth is b/c I used a fork to dip them out of the chocoloate
I forgot to mention that before you dip them, put the balls in the freeser for at least two hours
otherwise, they fall apart in the hot melty chocolate

Thanks Aunt Babs for this yummy recipe!

just checkin' in!

well, its been awhile since I last blogged! I'ms such blacker (blog-slacker)! heehee : )
It's been crazy, it's been chaotic, it's been 'the most wonderful time of the year'. I love Christmas, I love the spirit of giving, I love that Jesus came to Earth, I love being home and doing fun stuff! BUT....I hate this pressure I put on myself to make everything look perfect. At the moment, my house is a disaster b/c we haven't been home longenough to just chill. I don't want to complain! In fact, I will stop right there b/c I have all I need.
I have been busy at baking!! I love to bake, it's a lot of work & I make a huge mess (you should see my sink & kitchen floor!) but it's one of my favorite things to do. I love giving my baked goodies to my friends and family!
This is what I have been working on!

Peppermint Bark! G-man helped me out with this yummy stuff! He like putting the red food coloring in & mixing it up!
I have this recipe for chocolate chip cookies that I have been dying to make but the recipe yeilds 112 cookies so I had to have a reason to make this many.....if you live near me, chances are, you are gonna get your own baker's dozen!

You might be a redneck if you use your oudoor grill as a cooling rack! ROTFL!!! well, it is faster than a traditional cooling rack.....it's 32 degrees out there!

Told ya there was a lot. This isn't all of them, it's just one tray I stacked!
Don't they look Dee-Lish!!!

I have one last thing I am working on. It's called Martha Washington candy! It's heavenly! I will post the pics and the recipe b/c it's too good to be kept a secret!
Have a great day!

just blabbing.....

Ok, this one's for HAM! First, I want to say that I seriously miss blogging! it was one of my favorite guilty pleasures and now it's like a luxury if I can get to it. I have lots to share in pictures but I have yet to find the t-i-m-e to get pictures uploaded. I have been really busy which is a double edge sword b/c yes I like my job but dadgumit, if something else suffers for it. That being said, my house is the thing that suffers. I would be so ashamed if I had someone drop by on a whim. I mean, really my real would understand and wouldn't judge me but I don't even want the UPS man to peek inside! I do have plant to get things back in order as soon as I get home from school tomorrow. I will have to stop by my crack dealer  favorite java shop Dunkin Donuts and get two or three rocks a XL coffee with a hint of heroine vanilla or pumpkin spice! We have a super busy weekend which makes it a little bit depressing b/c I don't really get to relax. It's okay though, there are only 10 full days of school left before CHRISTMAS break and I will be ready for it!
This week has flown by b/c I have been in what I call the world of DIBELS. Its an assessment that schools here do 3 times a year for every grade level. I have been testing 1st and 2nd graders. It has made the days go by quick but it's very monotonous. I have seen some improvements in the students that I have been working with in small groups and that makes me very happy! One of realizatins that I have been noticing is that I know that God created me to be a school teacher. I feel it when I step inside the school. It's like I think about the love that God has for me and I want those kids to know that kind of love. I know it can only happen through me. I feel His presence when I am working with every student. My heart hurts when I hear or see some of these kids neglected or unkempt. It just tears me up. I have a harder time with it when it comes to the girls. OH, if I only had one, she would be terribly rotten, more so than the G-man! Anyway, I just wanted to share that. I don't think very many people know what God's mission is for their life and I am so glad I do. Its not ever going to be a cake walk but faith makes all things possible, not easy!
Anywhoo, thats my 'schpill' for now.....I miss you bloggy friends! I promis I will check in as much as I can!!!
HUGS!

p.s. I realize some people may be offended by my 'drug' joke b/c addiction is real but I was trying to make myself laugh more than anything.

Nov 19, 2010

that's how I roll.....

not the best picture but here's my cart I use to go from class to class
I had to find something that would hide my stuff so the kids wouldn't feel the need to touch my things.
Don't chya just love the fabric? it's owls!!!
my newest obsession....everyone "raved" about how cute it is!
Thanks M.O.M for helping me make this!

What would I be w/o my Poofy!

thank you "Martha"

Cindy over at the Martha Complex gave me an award! Wow, I have never recieved an award!

With this award I am supposed to share 7 things about myself, and then pass the blog award on to some blogs that I enjoy. Follow below to see the blogs I nominated...

1. I miss being at home. I do like my job but I also liked being at home and having a lot more feedom to choose what to do with my day. I feel like I am making a difference in some of the students I work with. But my deepest heart's desire ts to be in my own classroom.

2. I have begun to read a short devotional every morning when I get to school. Sometimes I miss but for the most part, I read one and say a little prayer. It really has helped me to stay focused on what God is using me for. Also, the amazing thing is that what I read usually pertains to what I'm struggling with! God is so cool!

3. I am reading this book called "TEACH like your hair is on fire" by Rafe Esquith. This teacher has an amazing perspective and gives some really good advice on how to teach effectively. I think it should be a required reading for all Teachers, but that's just me!

4. I am taking myself on a mini-vacation the first few days of Spring Break. I am hoping my BFF will join me! I can't tell you where it is, but WHEN  I make that RSVP, you'll be the first to know!

5. We are working OH so HARD on our Children's Christmas musical. It's going to be a real HOOT!
Heather and I feel like we are going to lose our minds but I know we'll both be welling up with tears b/c we will be so proud of our kiddos!

6. My boy earned his Bobcat badge last night at Cub Scouts! I am super proud of him and I think he really likes Scouting. We are the Den Leaders and there are nine boys. They have a lot of fun together and I have a great group of parents who are very involved and have made the committment to stick with scouting.

7. I don't normally share a lot of private and personal information, but I am seeking God's face in our efforts to have another child. One of the options we are thinking about is sperm donation. Its something I am praying about. I can't really entertain the specifics until after the new year because our insurance is going to change. It's just one of those things that requires a lot of prayer and consideration.

Thanks Cindy for the AWARD!!!

NOW, its my turn to hand out the STYLISH BLOG award!

Cheryl over at a pretty cool life
Ruth over at My Devotinal Thoughts
Heather at Our Life...

Five Q Friday

I know, I know...I haven't blogged in like a 100 years. That new job keeps me busy and very tired! So I figures this was a good start to get back on board....at least for today!

. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you?
Hands down! my scoliosis surger at age 12. There are no words to describe that kind of pain. Thank God for a great surgeon and a great hospital. My C-section runs a close second to that one!

2. How much sleep do you get at night?
On average, 6-7 hours. Not quite enough for a girl who loves her some sleep!

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?
I was about 7 or 8. Thats really young to stop believing in Santa. I just figured it out on my own.
4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
The Last Song

5. What do you wear to bed?
my house is like an igloo b/c of the hubs so I usually wear long pj pants and a t-shirt, then I cover up with three blankets to stay warm.

~pray~

ok,...it could just be a really bad case of PMS but I'm feeling so overly emotionally about everything! I could cry right now thinking about dumb stuff. I wrote a private post this afternoon just to get out all the negativity I feel. Its not me, I try hard to look at the glass as half full. Today....it seems half empty.
please just whisper a small prayer for me......thanks (HUGS)

radom ranting

This week has probably been THE busiest week I have ever had this whole entire year! Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to have a job. Its humbling and yes I "could" complain about a few things, but its just part of the path I'm on & its only the been the first week. I have come to realize that I am going to have to sit down and put together a personal schedule becasue I can't live through another week like this. It was an unusual kinda week  with Grant being on fall break and having something to do every single night. Even tonight! we're booked. Then, tomorrow Grant has bible quizzing and later in the day we are heading out to a family reunion which is not on my list of favorite things to do...(it's a long story). The only upside is spending time with my dad and seeing my Mamaw, oh & my favorite aunt. Church is on Sunday, not too bad but I will be with the kids. Trust me, when Dec. 6th rolls around, H & I will be so 'over it'! if you know what I mean.
I feel like I have lost touch with my bloggy world and I haven't been able to read up on my fav's. I haven't gotten to pull out some crafty creations that I have been wanting to do. I haven't been able to chill and watch a good t.v. show. I haven't even gotten a chance to look at Cub Scout stuff which is not like me! I like the 'idea' of being a planner and I like to plan but its really finding THE TIME to get it all done. Oh, the pressure!!! okay, get a grip Amanda. I can do this! its just about finding balance! we'll see.
I just know that this weekend is going to FLY by!
have a good one!!!

Oct 18, 2010

~first day~

So, today I started my new job! it was a drag to get up at 5am but a nice hot shower woke my sleepy body up! I don't have Grant for a few day, he's at "camp" Uncle P for a few days b/c his school is on Fall Break.
I got myself ready, ate a bite of breakfast, did a short devotional, grabbed a cup o' joe and headed out the door. I didn't really know what I would be "doing" when I got there but I knew I would just get in there & get my hands dirty. Well, I had a great initiation! I had just been introduced to the Teacher's Aides when suddenly the fire alarm went off. I didn't know what to do so I just ran where they went. I ended up sprinting through the halls, through the gym and into the daycare part of the school and was given two babies to carry out! One on my hip, the other holding my hand! The baby I had in my arms was about 18 mos. old but she was what I call "chunky chicken noodle"! She was a ham but her chubbiness made her so dang cute! The other little girl was about the same age and she was adorable as well. She kept saying "hi" every time I said, "come on sweetie" as I was practically dragging her out the building! The whole school had to stand outside until the fire dept. came and cleared the building. It took about 15 min. After all was settled back in, I was asked to help with make up pictures. That took a couple of hours of my time but its okay, I didn't have anything else better to do. I ate a quick bite for lunch and then I went with the secretary to meet the Kindergarten, First, and Second grade teachers b/c those are the teachers of the students I will be working with.
The principal is theeee sweetest person. She's not like a "Principal" type. She's very approachable and better yet is a Believer! She made no hesitation to let me know that I was now part of the WAW family! Everyone I met was so kind and caring. It was funny b/c a couple of the first grade teachers were like "we want you from 7:30 - 8:00 every day!" The coolest part is that I get to make my own scheule which I will be working hard on this week so I  can really get a routine going.
At the end of the day, we had to have a quick staff meeting in the library. Ms. Giles inroduced me to everyone and the neetest thing happened! They (everyone at the meeting) gathered in prayer for a fellow faculty member getting reeady to have surgery! Isn't that so awesome!? It was right then that I felt from the Holy Spirit that I was destined to be here at this school for howoever long I am needed to be there! It was just awesome to feel that, I almost wanted to start crying but I didn't. I am looking forward to this new adventure/jouney that God has set me out on! The only "downer" is that 5am wake up!

~phOTO phRIDAY~

This is just one of many pics I took at Boy Scout Jamboree. All I heard about for days on end was "when will I get to shoot the BB gun?". Finally, after a lot of standing around & waiting, our little Tigers got their chance to hold a BB gun and shoot at a target. Little Squeeze only hit his target once, he was a bit disppointed but of course he needs to practice holding & shooting the rifle. It was fun, and mostly I endured a lot of people, outdoor bathroom facilities, and lots of dust so that he could hang with boys his age and have a lot of fun. Ya'll have a great weekend. Mine will go too quickly b/c I start my new JOB on Monday....yay!!!

~Keep America Warm~

There are times in my life when I forget how truly blessed I am. I have the bare necessities: food, shelter, and clothing. I really have no reason to complain. There is a project coming up that I jumped into becasue I want so much to be a giving and caring individual and also to set an example for those who are watching....especially little squeeze!
So, I hooked up with the girls over at Friends You Love and told them I was moe than willing to team up with them and other bloggy people to KEEP AMERICA WARM!
So if you have a coat or two or five million that you no longer need or use, its time to get busy and collect. The details of this event are coming soon. The FYL blog team is working on getting city based teams up and running.

We are on our way to the District wide Boy Scout Jamboree which is going to celebrate 100 years of Scouting. As of lst night, there will be over 10,000 scouts and Adult Partners there! Wow, its gonna be like a "wood-Scout" hehe!! Pray for us.....we are hoping for a safe and fun experience!
Happy Weekend!!!

~Den Doodle~

I scraplifted this idea from a lady who was doing a Training for new Den Leaders. The hubs & I are Tiger Den Leaders for the Cub Scouts and we are really enjoying this special first year of scouting for the boy. He is loving every minute of it too! I made a "Den Doodle", sort of like a Mascot for our Tigers. It was soooo easy and pretty inexpensive I think I might just carry this idea over into my classroom (when I become a 'real' teacher) and I might even  get the Caravan kids at church to do one!

Oct 6, 2010

my little corner of the world....

On Monday it was our anniversary.......13 years, funny to think that it was possible I could've had a tween! BUT God is all knowing & thankfully, He knew when I was ready to be a mommy....here's a pic!

then yesterday this happened!

half of me was so happy for him but half of me was sad....why?
because its just another sign that he really is growing up!
quoted from my friend's little girl "I can't like it!"
He, on the other hand, is way super excited!!!

and then today it was Walk to School Day
G's school was the featured school for our district so it was a big deal
and he kept reminding me where we had to go and
who was going to be there. So we got up super early to be out of the house by 6:30am so I could at least get some coffee at DD.
He was ready to go!
how convenient that his OBF Emma from Kindergarten was there too!
and then I  got to take a picture of the boy with a local celebrity! of sorts...
the Mayor of Nashville, Karl Dean

it was a really awesome school event and you can't help but notice the FedEx truck in the back, the FedEx men/women took up the kids' backpacks so they didn't have to carry them on our walk to school. You should've seen the look on Grant's face, he was afraid they were going to keep it for good!
and all I heard about for the past week was that the Mayor was going to be there, so when I said,"do you want me to take your picture with him", he suddenly had a spirit of shyness! He did it anyway and I think its pretty cool myself!

Happy Wednesday!

30 Days of Insight

30 days hath September, April, June & November.......

a thirty day challenge to think about stuff you normally don't think about.....should be interesting & FUN!

Day 01- Guilty pleasure.

Blue Bell Ice Cream----Banana Pudding

Day 02- Something that inspires you.

when I have days that I feel like a mess, the Bible is my truest inspiration

Day 03- The five songs you would have with you on a desert island and why.

1. Feels Like Today: Rascal Flatts
2. Every Season: Nicole Nordemon
3. Freedom: Nicole C. Mullen
4. Our Hope Endures: Natalie Grant
5. Nothin' But Love: Whitney Houston

Day 04- What do you imagine paradise to be like?

there are no appropriate words to describe what Heaven will be like but I hope there are 3 things: coffee, chocolate & cheese!

Day 05- A thank you letter to someone who has changed your life.

I didn't write a letter but I told one of my college professors how much he changed my life because of how he taught a room full of women and his sincere compassion, kindness, and love for us made all of us better 'future' teachers. His name is Dr. Graham Matthews. He is a wonderful man! I will never forget him!

Day 06- Earliest thing you can remember.

I remember standing on the steps of my Elementary school waiting to go in for my first day of Kindergarten.

Day 07- Favorite cover of your favorite song.

Any Rascal Flatts cover is good for me!

Day 08- Someone you think would make a good president.

A dear lady I go to church with. Her name is Mrs. Betty. She is a straight forward, no bones about it honest and has a heart of gold. Plus the fact that she is a killer cook/baker. I love her dearly. She doesn't put up with any nonsense!

Day 09- Five things you want to see change.

1. a cure for all cancers
2. eliminate childhood hunger
3. for recycling to be a law
4. better educational opportunities for ALL children
5. better pay for educators who teach with passion, integrity, and effectiveness!

Day 10- A dream you had this past week described in detail.

I don't dream a lot b/c I'm so stinkin' tired....I might have to come back to this one

Day 11- Favorite picture ever taken of yourself.

the first picture of me holding my son after he was born

Day 12- Your favorite musical artist’s life story.

hhmmm, not sure, maybe Natalie Grant

Day 13- A memory that never fails to make you laugh.

the night two friends & I walked several miles to go t.p. a boys house we went to school with....it was a myriad of mistakes that happened that night, lets just say, its a God thing that we didn't get arrested!

Day 14- Best mashup you’ve ever heard.

I have no idea! outta the loop on this one!

Day 15- A moment, phrase, or song that has changed your life the most.

the day I graduated college changed my life forever, it was a very long and difficult journey and I pray that by setting the example for my son, you are never too old to get an education!

Day 16- Something that you want to do within the next five years.

I want to go to Italy in 2012. That will be the hubs & I 15 yr. anniversary. I want to spend at least 10 days there.

Day 17- What you want to be remembered for.

just one? I want my son to say that I was a great Mom. I want others to say that they saw Jesus in me, in my words, actions, and deeds. I want to be remembered as an awesome teacher!

Day 18- A picture that makes you feel.

I have a ton of pictures that make me feel all kinds of feelings. I love the pictures I take for my friends. It helps me perfect my photography skills which are not all that great to begin with. BUT! I have taken some pretty decent ones. I love taking pics of my baby boy!

Day 19- A passage from a book that has touched you.

that's a bit tough.....I love scripture and I have my favorites but I also like what Rick Warren says in his book "Purpose Driven Life" which is that Life is a Temporary Assignment and that we are Not an Accident

Day 20- A band that you immediately liked and the song that made you like them.

Die Hard Rascal Flatts Fan! one of their first singles is "Movin' On"....it hit a chord with me...no pun intended!

Day 21- Your favorite medium of art.
photography

Day 22- Someone you would give your life up for without question.

any of my family members especially my own son!

Day 23- Most awkward first impression you feel you’ve ever given.

this probably occurred sometime between the age of 14 and 19. I don't really remember stuff like that but I was a pretty awkward teen so I'm sure there were moments that my first impressions were uh, not so great!
Day 24- Something you did as a child that other people remember you for.

I would line up all my baby dolls & stuffed animals and pretend to play school! Ironic b/c now I really am a teacher! hahaha

Day 25- Something you would do if no one stopped you or if you knew you wouldn’t fail
.
A full marathon....Boston or New York?

Day 26- Your definition of love.

stolen from Dr. Phil: Waking up everyday and asking yourself "what can I do today to make my significant other's life easier?", that's what I call Love.

Day 27- Your definition of the meaning of life.

I think we are all here for a purpose. Not necessarily what WE think is our purpose but what God has purposed for us. I believe we go through mountains and valleys that teach us lessons as well as lean on God's love for us and give him the ultimate praise when prayers are answered. I think we are vessels in which God's light and unconditional love is to be alive and bright in all that we say and do.

Day 28- A moment you remember being completely happy in and a description of why you believe you were. What is your definition of happiness?

there are several of these but I will go with one that happened last week. After 16 months, I was finally hired in the school district that I have been wanting to be in since I began my college career in 2005. Its not the "dream" job as a classroom teacher but its a job where I think and truly believe is where God wants me in. I think its going to be a wonderful opportunity to observe, learn,m and grow into a more effective and successful teacher. I almost cried when I was offered the job b/c I know that God does answer our prayers and he always uses seasons like I went through to teach us things about ourselves and about Him.
My definition of happiness is broad but specifically, I am happy when those I love are happy, healthy, and loving life!

Day 29- What you live for.

I live for Christ first and foremost, After that I live to be a wife, mom, friend, teacher, mentor, servant, daughter, sister, and a fanatically obsessed scrapbooker/crafter.

Day 30- Ways you believe you have grown over the past thirty days.

I think its been enlightening especially when you have to think about what you want to write that is interesting enough for others to read.

Scout Mania

Last night, I had to attend a Den leaders meeting. It lasted 3 hours! I know right? It wasn't too bad except for the hard chairs that were killing my back by the end of it.
I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Its not really a bad feeling, its just I am a bit of a perfectionist and I want to get it right. I didn't realize that there was so much stuff to remember and keep track of! I like the challenge of it though. Its going to be fun to spend time with the fam and get to know other families too. The BIG event that is coming up is Jamboree. There are already close to 10,000 people signed up. Our pack is going to get a 50x100 ft. space to set up tents for about 70 people. I KNOW!!! that tight quarters, huh? We are all going to get to know each other in a much better way! LOL : O
I had so much info swirling around in my head that I fell asleep and woke up thinking about Jamboree!
There is another meeting on Thursday and I expect we will be overloaded again with more info. I have had to write stuff down just so I don't forget. Usually I can remember stuff but not in this situation!
I will definitely post pictures from Jamboree but meanwhile, I have another camping trip to get ready for. Caravan campout is this weekend! I love my church kids, so this will be FUN!

on another note: Granty boy has his first loose tooth!!!! I don't know who is more excited about it, him or me?!?! I just don't want him to lose it at school! I love these milestones!
Have a Great Wednesday!
p.s. I lost 2 lbs at WW last night......yay!

Wow! what an unbelievable experience! One I will never forget! I woke up this morning feeling like I had been in a car accident! Not to make light of accidents but that is how sore I am today! I'm glad I accomplished this especially at my age! I know, I'm not THAT old but still I'm not like...21 anymore!
Here is some pictures....I haven't been able to access the ones that the Event people take but as soon as I can, and if they are decent, I will post 'em!
