52 reasons...

Here is my first project for the class at JoAnn's
{inspiration from Pinterest}

I'm super stoked! and nervous too! I hope I have at least one student!
I'll post my next project when I get it done!

new adventure

I haven't blogged in awhile....I'm a busy girl! I like being busy but I also would like some down time to catch up on stuff. I recently was introduced to a lady that coordinates the education classes at a nearby JoAnn store. She wanted someone to do a "trend" class which is like doing stuff that no one really thinks about making. So, I officially became an independent contractor for JoAnn as an instructor. This means that I only get paid a percentage of what "students" will pay for the class. I don't get an hourly wage which is fine by me. My top two reasons for doing it is because I need the extra money AND it's going to be fun and easy. I get to set my schedule, the class I want to teach, the price I think that project needs to be, and how often I want to make the class.
The lady who "hired" me is super sweet, very friendly, extremely flexible, and outright my kind of gal! She called me few days later and offered to allow me to pick up teaching some extra classes so of course I said yes because crafting is like.....FUN! the only down side is that when Jo Ann's sets the project, I have to make the sample in the store and I don't get paid for it. But that's okay, it's still gonna be fun!

doll baby

We FINALLY had a snow day on Friday. Though there wasn't much snow, it caused enough concern for schools ot close. This impromptu day off  made me want to do something different. I bought a sewing machine two Christmase' ago and just kinda left it in the box. I kept encouraging myself to get it out and experiment but could never really get the gumption to do so.
I saw this super cute doll a blogger had made and she used a pattern that seemed pretty simple. I found out that the pattern is copyrighted so you can only use it for private use. Otherwise, I'd probably make a few to sell. Anyway, the pattern is called a Black Apple doll and you can search for it on MarthaSweart.com. I enlarged the pattern on a copier and used a cereal box to re-enforce the paper. I traced my pieces on the fabric I had and a piece of felt for the hair.
Even though this little doll took me a little bit of time to complete, I learned that sewing is just a matter of trial and error. I had fun figuring it all out and it kept me busy for a few hours. It can be quite relaxing to sew because you get so lost in what you are making.

Here's the finished product!

She's pretty cute, huh?
Her new owner is a sweet seven year old girl whom I absolutely adore!
Wonder what she'll name her?

Today was interesting....sort of. My boy who never really gets sick began throwing up around 4am. This only added to the previous 3 times I had been woken up. I won't divulge details but OMG! I hate being woke up in the middle of the night for dumb stuff! If it had just been Grant getting sick, I definitely would be ok with it.

I don't know what Grant has, I think it's just some 24 hr. virus. He's been laying around all day going from the couch to the bed. I felt so sorry for him. It pains me to see him sick. Hes kept down a little bit of food and even snoozed later in the afternoon.

I took my big butt back to the gym and started my "new year" workouts. I didn't take any precautions when it came to all the holiday food and goodies. Now, I'm paying for it. I always try to talk myself out of going but then I think about the things that motivate me. After my torturous hour working out, I headed home and stayed here ALL DAY! On purpose....it's so flippin' cold outside I can't stand it! Winter and I don't get along much unless copious amounts of snow falls! I worked on my December Daily album. I was adding my pictures and journaling. I'll show ya when I get done with it all.

SO here it s the 2nd day of January....tomorrow I have to go back to work. Don't exactly know what I'll be doing but I have to make the most of it!

Vintage Postcard Journaling Calender

I shamelessly stole this idea from another blogger and you can go HERE to my Pinterest board to see the idea!
It took me awhile to hunt down some really cool and vintage-y postcards. I didn't realize vintage postcards could be so expensive. You will also need a lot of index cards. I cut mine down to 3 1/2 inches.  The most lengthy part is stamping the month on each card. I'm putting this in plain site so I won't forget to write something each day. I don't think it has to be earth shattering or even seriously personal. I just want to write somethiing each day and then at the end of this year, I can go back and reflect on some memories made.

I permanently borrowed this liitle box from my mom's stash of stuff being stored in my basement. I added the ribbon to make it look cute. I couldn't find the cute cardbarrd berry basket that the other blogger used. Anthropologie has some ceramic ones but they are quite pricey.

I tried to match up the month with each postcard but not all of them "go" together.

 I'm linking up...
